Expressive Arts and Design - Paint my world
The children thoroughly enjoyed this unit. They started by exploring painting through finger painting. They discussed the textures and colours and learnt about figurative and abstract art.
Then, they moved onto painting to music. They listened to the music and discussed how it made them feel. Using 'magic brushes', they moved their paintbrush (without paint) on the paper according to those feelings. After, they repeated the same process but with paint on their brushes. We discussed strokes like dots, zigzags, dashes, thick strokes, swirls etc.
Another activity we looked at was transient art. This involves using a range of objects to create a piece of art. This can be figurative or abstract. They learnt that objects can freely be moved and in the end need tidying away.
The unit ended with a collaborative piece inspired by the colours and patterns of fireworks. Having access to a variety of resources, the children could use teabags dipped in paint and throw, dab or wipe them. They could use paintbrushes to flick paint or create long or short strokes or dabs. Finally, a piece of string or ribbon could be dipped in paint and dragged across or flicked onto the paper.
