Collaborative Maths

Learning to cooperate and work with different partners, even those we might not ordinarily choose, is an essential life-skill for the future.

We ‘kicked off’ our maths work this year by completing some collaborative activities.

First, we tackled a Maths Buzz activity. We had to sequence nine cards, each depicting balloons with numbers, in a specific order by reading and analysing 14 clue cards. We referred back to the clues several times, as the task required a logical approach. It was a fantastic way to apply our knowledge to problem-solving tasks, and the 'buzz' in the room was absolutely fab!

Next, we focused on completing a Talk It, Solve It task, which was much shorter. We were given eight number cards and eight clues. After reading each clue, we eliminated cards that didn’t match the criteria until only one card remained. This activity allowed us to revise our knowledge of factors, multiples, and square numbers from Year 5 in preparation for later this term.
